Every adventure always seems to start - or follow up with - a tavern. Taverns, inns, and public houses are common gathering places for locals and travelers alike; a place to relax and get a drink, or have a quick bite of home-cooked food and find some quiet place to rest. There are lots of interesting characters you can meet in a tavern, and each one has a backstory or some interesting bit of information, if you take the time to ask around. Many parties even opt to stop into a tavern mid-adventure to catch their breath and interview some locals. DM Tools' new Tavern NPCs deck is a great way to add some local flavor to your tavern. Local scholars and mages, soldiers and thieves, and many other villagers that come with the spice of life. Choose a few to lay out for your party whenever they stop in to a tavern, inn, or public house. The face of each card has a picture and an introductory bit of atmospheric description, and on the back are seven different bits of character information and local story hooks for the DM or Storyteller that can give your adventurers some fun leads to follow up on or explore.
